Route 66
Route 66 is a historic highway in the United States that was established in 1926 and ran from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California. The highway covered a total of 2,448 miles and passed through eight states: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. Route 66 was a major transportation route for migrants traveling west during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s and later became a popular tourist destination, with roadside attractions, motels, and diners popping up along the route. The highway was also featured in popular culture, including the 1960s television series "Route 66" and the song "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66" by Nat King Cole. However, with the construction of the Interstate Highway System in the 1950s and 1960s, Route 66 became less traveled and was eventually decommissioned in 1985. Today, many sections of the historic highway have been preserved and restored, and it remains a popular destination for road trips and tourism.
