CBGB was a music club located in the Bowery neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. The club was founded in 1973 by Hilly Kristal and became known as a hub for the emerging punk rock scene in the city. The name "CBGB" originally stood for "Country, Bluegrass, and Blues," as the club initially booked acts in those genres. However, as the punk rock scene began to take off in the mid-1970s, CBGB became known for booking bands such as the Ramones, Blondie, and Talking Heads, among others.

CBGB became known for its gritty atmosphere and DIY ethos, as well as its role in launching the careers of many influential musicians. The club also played a role in the development of the punk fashion and aesthetic, with many musicians and fans sporting leather jackets, ripped clothing, and spiky hair.

CBGB closed in 2006, following a rent dispute with the building's landlord. However, the club's legacy lives on, and it is often cited as a cultural landmark and symbol of the punk rock movement in the United States.
